I traveled on the William H. Wolf with my father in 1955. Is there any way to find out the Captain’s name at that time? It was something like Ofsetter. Thanks.
His name was Elmer Auspsetter.
Elmer Auspsetter was my grandfather.
I was a deckhand on the William H. Wolf at the end of the1961 season. Elmer was a great captain to work for.

my grandfather Fred Taylor was a porter on that ship in 1958 59 60 61 62 and 1963
My husband sailed on her in 1958. He remembers a husband and wife team that cooked. Do you know there names?
Is there any source for the lines and deck layout of the William W Wolf?
Maybe someone can help or point me in the right direction. According to his Coast Guard discharge book, my grandfather served on this ship in 1945 when he was 17 as a coal passer and oiler. I was looking to compile some more information about this ship for my family. I am trying to obtain ship logs, crew manifests, or anything of that sort. Would anyone know where I could start looking? This is basically a shot in the dark, but I would surely appreciate it if anyone has any information.
Hi Geoff. How I fell across this is a complete mystery. Elmer was my great uncle; his brother Alfred was my grandfather. I met Elmer once though I was very young. I met Andy and Harold and my grandfather’s funeral. Since we lived in lower Michigan I very sadly did not get to know the brothers. The little bit I got to visit with Andy and Harold was wonderful. I miss my grandfather. What awesome men these were. if you would care to reach me you can do so at rspepin at gmail
Bob, I would very much like to contact you if you are willing.
Elmer was my uncle and my father was Alfred Auspsetter. He also sailed the great lakes. Plus Harold and Andy. Started sailing in 1919. My father was on a few freighters and so on the Anderson behind the Edmund Fitzgerald when it went down. All the brothers were great sailors.

In reviewing and expanding a family history and family tree, I ran across information that my great uncle, Myron Jensen, served aboard the Wolf for about 10 years. He later went on to serve on a “self-unloader ship, the Fitzgerald”. I am wondering if anyone can help me locate more information on Uncle Myron and his service, and whether the Fitzgerald he served on was the SS Edmund Fitzgerald. He was not on the crew that perished, as he passed away in 1963. The only crew listing I can find is the crew that perished. I have always felt a connection to the SS Edmund Fitzgerald wreck and wonder if this may be a reason why. Any information and help would be greatly appreciated
