My Grandfather sailed on the Paliki on three occasions, sailing from Kingston upon Hull to somewhere in the Baltic and the White sea.
3rd Apr 1920 – 17th July 1920
28th July 1920 – 3rd Dec 1920
11th Oct 1921 – 28th Nov 1921
Each time he was signed on as a 3rd Engineer.
Due to his age (22) and qualifications this makes me think that there was perhaps no more than 3 engineers on board. To further this hypothosis, his next vessel was the
SS Sophocles where he was signed on as a 6th Engineer.
In 1942 he was one of five survivors of the sinking of the Cape Corso, sunk by torpedoes somewhere north of Murmansk. He certainly seemed to like the colder climates!
