I sailed on the anderson in January 1971. We were frozen in the st. Mary’s river while downtown. Had damage to the rudder at least. After surviving a gale on lake michigan in near zero Temps we proceeded with 6 inches of ice and hoar frost covering the whole ship. After unloading at south (chicago) or Gary works we laid up at Jones Island ln Milwaukee harbor. I have one thing to say about late running. It’s nuts. Dave Ranson, ordinary seaman
My dad sailed on the ore boats. He probably would have been on the Benjamin Fairless in the early 70’s.

No, the oilers do no need to work in the tunnel. That is for the coveyorman and the gatemen.
Does anyone have the crew list of the SS Anderson the night the Edmonton Fitzgerald sank?
Hello Paul – I have also been searching for this crew list. Have you had any success in locating it?
If you can’t find it any other way, they read it when they do the November ceremony in Detroit at the Mariner’s Church to commemorate the sinking and the lost at sea.
I am also looking for the Anderson crew list from that night. My grandfather was working that night.
