Laid down as War Centaur for the British government for off-Lakes service during World War I.  Requisitioned by the United States Shipping Board during construction, renamed Lake Traverse and left the Great Lakes upon completion

1 deck, coal-fired boilers, triple expansion engine, 1250 IHP

Sold 1926 to Union Transit Co., Chicago IL (home port to Chicago IL) and returned to the Great Lakes

Entered Great Lakes service 1926

Sold 1936 to Nicholson Transit Co., Detroit MI (home port to Detroit MI)
Converted to crane vessel at Ecorse MI by Nicholson Terminal & Dock Co.

Sold 1940 to Panamanian buyers for off-Lakes service and left the Great Lakes

Sprang leak and sank July 6, 1955 off the north coast of Haiti, Atlantic Ocean.  Enroute from Ponce P.R. with cement for Saint-Marc Haiti

  1. My uncle Arne D Larsen sailed onboard as Chief Engineer during WWII. He received a medal from the Norwegian king Haakon 7th and a war pension from the Norwegian government years later. He settled in Brooklyn, NY after the war.
