My Great Grandfather’s name was William McLauchlan and he was a Captain of tall ships – after retiring from the sea he became the postmaster in Two Harbors, MN. Curious if this ship was named after him?
I would doubt it.
Since she was built for the Interlake Steamship Company, which in turn was managed by the Cleveland firm of Pickands, Mather & Co., I expect she was named for a member or close associate of one of these firms.
