My grandfather was a captain for this vessel. If anyone has more information please let me know.
Thanks
My grandfather was BF Affleck
My father was on the crew in the 1970’s. How can I get more data on this ship and the
dates my father sailed with this ship and his positions?
One possibility might be to post your question in boatnerd.com’s information search section. They ask for a username. I haven’t tried it myself but you might enter Guest in that box.
Good luck!
Wow, I’m delighted that I stumbled onto this…….I spent 5 months aboard the Affleck before my senior year in college in 1967…Having grown up in the Upper Peninsula, sailing was just something I’d always wanted to do….Was the most amazing experience…Spent my 21st birthday scraping paint in the engine room..My uncle (Francis Altman) spent his entire life from 18 to retirement on the Lakes and was the senior captain on the Lakes when he retired…It was a wonderful summer and filled with memories I still share today….even after 55 years..!!!….Thanks for posting…
I’m also from the upper peninsula, Ron and I got off the ship together. I was a deckhand that summer. Your post brought back good memories, thanks
I have a screen shots from an 8mm movie camera of the ship going thru the Soo locks. Not sure of the year. But I don’t know how to post photos.
I have a life boat from the B F AFFLECK in good condition and currently in the water at Gand Bend Ontario ,l powered it with 6 hp Petter diesel that I installed over 30 years ago. John Weir
