Built at Chicago IL by Chicago Shipbuilding Co., Hull 86

Launched Feb 28, 1918
Laid down as bulk freighter War Laurel for British government for off-Lakes service during World War I.  Requisitioned by the United States Shipping Board during construction, renamed Lake Clear and left the Great Lakes upon completion.

1 deck, coal-fired boiler, triple expansion engine, 1300 IHP

Sold Nov 1923 to Construction Materials Co., Chicago IL (home port to Gary IN) and returned to the Great Lakes

Converted to suction dredge 1924 at Sturgeon Bay WI by Leatham D. Smith Dock Co. and renamed Sandcraft.

Entered Great Lakes service 1924

Assigned 1941 to off-Lakes service during World War II and left the Great Lakes

Sunk July 2, 1950 in collision with str. Melrose in Narrows of New York harbor
