When in grade school in thr mid 60s our class went to Toronto and took a full tour of this ship. I was impressed at 11 years old. Now at age 63 I wondered what happened to her. Thanks for the great info.
I was able to walk up and down this ship while under construction on a field trip with my North End St Catharines Cub pack. For 10 year-olds, it was a day well spent. Of
my class did the same 1967 or 1968, I was in grade 4 at the time
My first ship in 1980 [Captain Mac Penney], before spending nearly 39 years with the Canadian Coast Guard.
While she was laid up in Toronto, she was used for filming of the David Mamet movie ‘Lakeboat’ which portrayed the playwright/screenwriter’s younger days on a Great Lakes bulk carrier.
A great film for anyone who has spent time on a laker.
My father James Bowers. Sailed on this ship. He was the wheels man. Was so proud of him
My uncle and wife were cooks on her.
