Stranded Nov 8, 1936 on Simmons Reef, Lake Michigan.  Crew of 19 rescued by U. S. Coast Guard.  After the vessel was abandoned, many individuals tried to salvage the 20,000 gallons of gasoline in her cargo compartment.  On January 1, 1937 the M.V. Marold II was destroyed by explosion in such a salvage operation, killing all five of her crew and gutting the Boyd.

Towed to Great Lakes Steel Corporation, Detroit MI and scrapped.
